The Art of Jaipur Jewelry: How Our Master Artisans Create Each Piece

For over 160 years, Jewels and Art Emporium has been at the heart of Jaipur's legendary jewelry-making tradition. Founded in 1857 in the Pink City, our craft is not just a business — it is a living heritage, passed down through generations of master artisans who pour their skill, patience, and soul into every single piece.

Jaipur: The Gemstone Capital of the World

Jaipur is no ordinary city. It is the global epicentre of handmade gemstone jewelry in India, home to centuries-old techniques that have made it famous from the royal courts of the Mughal era to the fashion capitals of the world today. The city's artisans — known as karigars — are among the most skilled craftspeople on earth, and their work is the foundation of everything we create.

From Raw Stone to Radiant Jewel: Our Craft Process

1. Designing with Purpose

Every piece begins as a sketch. Our designers draw inspiration from Rajasthani architecture, Mughal motifs, and the natural beauty of gemstones themselves. Each design is reviewed for wearability, balance, and the way it will interact with light — because a great jewel must be as beautiful in motion as it is at rest.

2. Carving and Casting in 925 Sterling Silver & 24k Gold

Our artisans work primarily with 925 sterling silver and 24k gold — materials chosen for their purity, durability, and the way they complement the vivid colours of our certified gemstones. The metal is carefully carved or cast into the designed form, then filed and refined by hand until every edge is perfect. This process alone can take several hours for a single piece.

3. Stone Cutting and Setting

Jaipur's gem-cutters are world-renowned. Our certified gemstones — including rubies, emeralds, sapphires, turquoise, and more — are cut and polished to precise specifications that maximise their brilliance. Each stone is then hand-set into the metal framework using traditional techniques like kundan (pure gold foil setting) and prong setting, ensuring the stone is held securely while allowing maximum light to pass through.

4. Finishing and Quality Control

Once set, each piece is polished, inspected, and — where applicable — enamelled using the ancient meenakari technique, which involves fusing coloured glass powders onto the metal surface. Our quality control team checks every piece against strict standards before it is approved for sale. Only pieces that meet our exacting criteria reach our customers.

Ethically Sourced, Certified Gemstones

We believe that beautiful jewelry should also be responsible jewelry. All of our gemstones are ethically sourced and certified, meaning you can wear your piece with complete confidence. Our commitment to ethical sourcing is part of who we are — a value we have held since 1857 and one we will never compromise.
